In 1986, we started with a small commercial herd of cattle, followed by our first purebred purchase in 1987 from J.J. Smiddy in Texas. Our foundation consisted of two cows, a calf, and eleven heifers with Stick, Enforcer, and Victor bloodlines. Soon after, we added a bull, marking our entry into the Polled Hereford business. As we expanded, we acquired more land and cattle, including a pivotal bull from Bob Young—BFY VICTOR BANNER X16—which enriched our herd. Throughout the 1990s, we grew our network, with Montie Soules becoming a valued friend and mentor. Our first bull partnership was with STAR EMBLEM WS 108D, who left a lasting impact on our ranch. He rests near my home, honored with a monument by Dennis Hulsey. In the mid-1990s, my daughter Brette and I visited Randy and Kelly Owen in Alabama, where we purchased our best cow, TRM JELLO 7182, a MISSILE daughter from TRM E44 SIS 334. She produced remarkable calves, and we later invested in her sire, TRM BIG T44B MISSILE 3124, whose influence has been significant.
